Yesterday I had breakfast, just by chance, with the most inspiring woman I have ever met… who just happens to be 100 years old.
Luise Rainer, the oldest living Oscar winner was the first person to ever win 2 Oscars back to back. She was only in the movie business for 3 years.
After our second coffee, stories began flowing about a brief ‘encounter’ with Albert Einstein, turning down Fellini, artists for dinner, living in Frank Lloyd Wright’s house, and true love with her husband of 48 years.
What was so interesting about her was that she was still so curious and passionate, still so inspired by life, the sunlight, art, people… She asked so many questions about what inspired us, what we hoped for, what our dreams were.
At 100 years of age, she recently flew back to Hollywood from her home in London (12 hours!), to present an award.
As she got up to go, I quickly asked her what the secret was…and she quietly replied, “curiosity… curiosity is the fountain of youth.”
“Endless summer days… floating in deep waters with the sun beating on your face, juice dripping down your mouth, cloud dream lands, folk music, dancing as the sun sets, long moonlit dinners, love by the ocean… pure summer perfection.”—
The greatest thing about being stranded in the middle of the ocean somewhere in the Hamptons after dark was the bottle of Petrone and 7 shooting stars… and the rescue boat that took 2 hours to find us.
